i stole this..... bite me.

Imagine that your country is preparing for
the outbreak of an unusual disease that is
expected to kill 600 people. Two alternative
programs to combat the disease have been
proposed. Assume that the exact scientific
estimates of the consequences of the
program are as follows.
If Program A is adopted, 200 people will be
saved.
If Program B is adopted, there is a 1:3
probability that 600 people will be saved
and a 2:3 probability that no one will be
saved.
So what program do you favor? Program A or
Program B?

If there is a 1:3 shot that 600 will live, is there any chance that some could make it and some could not?
Or does everyone either live or die?
Screw it....
Im going with B.

well, there's a 1:2 chance I might pick type A
but... then again... 1:2 for type B too...
so... since I know jason is well... a fucking genius, i'm gonna go with B too

Quick question, what type of people are these? are they common anglo-saxon male american citizens with an annual net income of over $75,000? if this is the case, i say we spend several more million dollars of tax payers money to find a better solution.
if they are lower life forms such as politicians, women, lawyers, mexicans, canadians, or Texans, I say save the tax payers money, and just let them all die. don't use either plan.
if it is a mix, go with plan A, but make sure that the 200 that survive are of the first set of people i mentioned.

Now I will answer the question seriously because I feel that this question truly is a thought provoking topic. I do have questions though.
1. What are the probabilities based on?
2. You say that the disease is expected to kill 600 people, is this an exact number, or is this just a rough estimate (and how rough)
3. What type of people will this be effecting, ie, middle class, criminals, children, etc.
Once I have these answers, I will attempt to answer the question to the best of my ability.

ahhhhh... gravy is a thinkin' man....
bravo.
a good rule of thumb for any riddle or logical
equation is that nothing should be implied from
the information given.
in other words, all the information you need
is posted right there.
now attempt to re-read the question in a new manner.

So shatzy, you are going to tell me that this is a riddle or a logical equation? It sounds to me that this is an issue of humanitarian acts. 1) DO we want to risk the chance of killing everyone, or 2) do we want to guarantee that some of the people will be saved.
If i am to make a reasonable decision concerning this issue. I must have the previously requested information. If this is a riddle or some sort of logic game, I do not want to have anything to do with this because i thought that this board was more intellectual. If I wanted to play games with riddles I would visit *link edited due to administrative payback*
(ok, i just wanted to advertise jizz nasty on this board)and actually i enjoy riddles, but i was fooled into thinking this was serious.
